The European Parliament today approved a grant worth 90 million euros for Moldova by majority vote, the government's communications and press relations department has said.

The financial assistance is given to back Moldova to fight the financial crisis. The grant will be used to cover the deficit of payments and budgetary needs. This financial support will be available in three or four installments. The first two ones will be allocated in 2010 and the others the year to come, informs GHN referring to MOLDPRES.

The 90 million euros will supplement the financial assistance given so far to Moldova by the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, as well as other development partners.

The European Parliament's decision is meant to fulfill the commitments assumed at a meeting of the development partners, held in Brussels on 24 March 2010. At that time, a Moldovan delegation led by Prime Minister Vlad Filat presented the programme Rethink Moldova, for the implementation of which the development partners decided to financial aid worth 2.6 billion dollars allocate to Moldova. This programme contains priorities for Moldova's development in 2010-2012.
