Zaza Qachibaia, head of Antimonopoly Service of the Georgian Procurator's Office said Israeli businessmen were monopolizing the transportation business of Georgian gas and oil.
Qachibaia as well noted that the Israeli businessmen appeared in Georgia since 1990s when the country was ruled by the Military Council and no any legitimate governmental body existed. Very high level of corruption was spread in the country. Taking this advantage Israeli businessmen bribed several public officials and took free of charge the main objects (existing ones and for the future construction) for transportation of gas and oil. Despite of this grand facilitation businessmen did not fulfilled even the minimal obligations, for this reason the contract was annulled with them. The Arbitrate Court obliged them for 100 mn USD fine. This was not the final decision as it was possible to appeal in higher instances. The Israeli businessmen repeated the old way and attempted to bribe with 7 mn USD, several times, deputy Finance Minister for cease of Court proceedings against them. The Court sentenced them.
No arguments were presented by defense for annulment of the accusation.
For information, the Israeli businessmen were detained last year on October 14 in allegation of attempt for bribery of high rank. The third businessman is wanted.
Several hours ago the Court sentenced them for 7 years of imprisonment (Fux) and 6 years of imprisonment (Frenkel). The news agency GHN was informed from the City Court that both are fined for 500 thousand GEL and 100 thousand Gel respectively. They are sentenced under the GCC article 339 part 3, - bribery
