Today is the National Day of Italy. Also known as Festa della Repubblica in Italian, this holiday marks the establishment of the Italian Republic on June 2, 1946.
The Italian Republic was born on June 2, 1946, when referendum was held and the Italian population was called to decide what form of government to give to the country after the second world war. Italy also marked the 150th anniversary of its national unity this year.
Traditional events of National Day include street parades.
The security measures are strengthened in the capital of Italy. The military parade will be held in the center of the Rome, the Georgian militants will take part in the parade for the first time. The Georgian servicemen will raise the Georgian national flag.
Georgia's President together with other state heads will attend festive activities dedicated to the day. Mikheil Saakashvili received official invitation from his Italian counterpart.
