Brain scans show that teens who regularly play video games have a higher volume of grey matter in the "reward hub" of their brains, the ventral striatum. This area of the brain is typically activated when people anticipate or experience pleasure and has been implicated in drug addiction. Researchers have not yet determined whether frequent gaming triggers these changes in the brain or whether people with a greater volume of grey matter in the ventral striatum are naturally more drawn to video games
