Nikoloz Rurua, Georgia's Minister of Culture and Monuments Protection said today that most statements about Bagrati temple in Imereti region served as misinformation, incompetence, and an attempt to score political points.
Rurua made the above-mentioned statement before the presentation of the Bagrati temple project at the Ministry of Culture. "The church is in the final phase, at the fourth stage of reconstruction. Now we should diffuse all rumors and misinformation. There are some parties who want to politicize any issue and cause a split in the society," Rurua noted.
The presentation was attended by the Director General of the National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage, and the Italian restorer, author of a number of important UNESCO projects, Andrew Bruno, as well as historians and writers.
Rehabilitation work in the Bagrati temple is suspended at this time, which was requested by Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia ll. Consultations are held between the Ministry of Culture and the Church on the subject.
