Parliament of Georgia will adopt the law on obligatory broadcast of licensed television by cable providers at the last day of the summer session today. According to the draft law, the amendments of the must carry principle oblige all cable and satellite broadcasters to carry the transmitting of all licensed televisions to its subscribers. The parliamentary minority has already declared support to the amendments; however, the opposition is demanding extension of its deadline. The transmitting of the licensed channels will begin 60 days before the election day and will be completed 24 hour before. The opposition demand extension of the deadline to 90 days - until the CEC announced final results of the election. But according to the current version of the draft law, the deadline will be extended only in case the election results require second run off.
The draft law on obligatory transit, so-called must carry has been supported by 81 MPs yesterday. Today the parliament will adopt the draft law by the second and the third hearings.
