State budget 2012 will be amended due to the disaster, which inflicted serious damage to several regions of Georgia; Kakheti Region was affected most of all by the hail and windstorm last week. The government of Georgia discussed the amendments at today`s session, which was chaired by Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili.
Fifty million GEL will be allocated for the disaster elimination foundation and these funds will be spent on emergency measures planned in the affected regions. In addition, the funds of the Kakheti Development program will be also increased and its financial resource will be 110 million GEL, 20 million of which will be spent on elimination of disaster consequences.
The government will also increase the funding of the Kakheti municipal governments. 17 million GEL will be spent on rehabilitation measures in the disaster regions from the government`s reserve funds. Assignments of the Ministry of Health and Social Care will be also increased with the same reason.
Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili thanked ministers for their work in the disaster regions last week. He said the government would continue to work in emergency regime until all programs aimed at rehabilitation of the damaged regions are implemented.
The government will submit the draft amendments to the state budget to parliament today. The document will be discussed at committee sessions tomorrow and afterwards a special session of the parliament will be summoned to adopt the amendments.
