In honor of of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Georgia, Chargé d'Affaires Bridget Brink will travel to Svaneti to participate in a celebration organized by the U.S. Embassy and the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The festivities will center around a joint U.S.-Georgian group of climbers attempting to summit Mt. Tetnuldi (4,858 meters) and another group that will undertake hikes and cultural activities together.
In addition to the Mt. Tetnuldi climb, activities include hiking around Mestia, visiting Ushguli, learning traditional Georgian cooking in hands-on classes, and attending cultural performances.
On her way to Mestia on August 1, Chargé Brink will undertake a site visit to the Senaki-Abasha section of the East-West gas pipeline, which is being renovated with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). While in Svaneti, Chargé Brink will also visit a vocational education center that received assistance from USAID's Vocational Education Project, a $5.4 million workforce development project.
