The 2012 parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia on October 1. Manana Manjgaladze, Georgian President’s Press Speaker voiced the president’s decision regarding the exact date during a special briefing, and also announced launching of official pre-election campaigning starting today.
Manjgaladze also talked about election environment and claimed that the government undertook various measures for holding transparent and fair elections in the country.
She said such steps included but were not limited to arrival of long-term observation missions, verification of voters’ lists, changes regarding cable broadcasters and Code of Conduct for political parties.
Manjgaladze also said that Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili called on every citizen for participation in the elections and for making the polls as example of democracy.
