Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Thomas Melia, who arrived in Georgia on September 10, continues holding of meetings.
Melia met with Zurab Kharatishvili, Chairman of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) this morning. Melia's visit aims at getting acquainted with the pre-election situation in Georgia where on October 1 parliamentary elections will be held.
The delegation includes representatives of the Agency for International Development, the Department of Defense and Department of Justice.
Melia noted that the visit of the delegation stresses the importance of the democratic election process, as a result of which the Georgian people should elect parliament expressing their free will.
