Eleven years after the September 11 attacks, Americans will once again mark the anniversary with the usual ritual reading of the names of nearly 3,000 people killed that day.
But this year as ground zero once again becomes the focus, close by a new World Trade Centre to replace the destroyed twin towers is nearly completed.
Along with the construction on a dedicated Museum there is evidence of progress rising from the ashes.
Michael Frazier, Vice President of Communications, at the 9/11 Memorial, explained:
"What has been one of the most remarkable achievements at the World Trade Center site has been the opening of the 9/11 memorial last year, September 12, 2011 to the general public. Since then we have had more than 4.5 million people in less than a year."
In the aftermath of those terrible events when terrorists hijacked four airliners and used them as weapons to destroy targets in New York Washington and Pennsylvania, survivors and rescue workers have struggled with ill health.
A new law is now in force giving full health cover to around 70,000 individuals and their children.
