/UKRINFORM/. A mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) started its work in Ukraine on September 10, Foreign Ministry's spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov briefed the press on Tuesday.
Dykusarov said the mission is led by Audrey Francis Glover of the UK, who had already headed an ODIHR/OSCE mission in the 2007 early parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
"The core team of the mission consists of 16 OSCE experts. In addition, 90 long-term observers will arrive in Ukraine on September 17 and will be located in different regions of the country," said the diplomat.
The diplomat also noted that the main task of the long-term observers is to monitor the election process in Ukraine and prepare reports, which should include an independent analysis of the situation. Also, the observers will make the preparations for the arrival of 600 short-term observers from OSCE member countries, which will monitor the elections on election day.
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is based in Warsaw, Poland. It is active throughout the OSCE area in the fields of election observation, democratic development, human rights, tolerance and non-discrimination, and rule of law.
