In the Libyan capital, dozens of demonstrators have held a rally in the centre of Tripoli to protest against the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi.
Although most were angry over the anti-Islamic film which may have triggered the upsurge in violence, many held banners with anti-terrorism slogans.
"The event that took place regarding the prophet Mohamed - we all condemn it and the offenders should be punished but not the diplomatic mission personnel and staff who have nothing to do with it," said one protester.
Protests in several Arab countries have been touched off by an obscure film made in the US and posted on You Tube which ridicules Islam's prophet Mohammad.
In Egypt demonstrators gathered outside the US Embassy in Cairo for a second night.
Although the film has caused wide spread offence there is speculation over its authenticity due to the over dubbing and unverified source.
Wednesday night's demonstration turned into clashes with Egyptian security forces who used tears gas to disperse the crowed. Four people were arrested.
