Egyptian president Mohamed Mursi on Thursday used his first visit to Europe to condemn the controversial film and its depiction of Muslims.
Mursi was in Brussels for talks with senior EU officials on a financial aid package to help overhaul his country's economy.
During a joint press conference with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, Mursi said he would do all he can to prevent any further attacks on diplomatic missions in Egypt.
He said that all Egyptians condemn such "unlawful acts" before launching into a stinging attack on the film's producers.
"I can tell you that people across the Muslim and Arab world are very angry that this film has been made by a group of people that is blasphemous against the Prophet Mohammed.
"We condemn very strongly all those who launch such provocations and who stand behind that hatred," he said.
Mursi added that he had spoken to US President Barack Obama and asked him "to put an end to such behaviour."
