Giorgi Tughushi, Georgia's Public Defender released a special statement regarding the facts of prisoners` torture in the Gldani # 8 prison.
Public Defender named all persons, who were shown in the videos depicting the crime and demands beginning of investigation and punishment of the persons involved.
`Georgia`s Public Defender urges the law enforcement structures to investigate scrupulously the facts of mistreatment in the penitentiary system, including the cases, which were mentioned in the various reports of the Public Defender and National Mechanisms of Prevention. The videos depicting these crimes were released yesterday.
In these videos there are the employs of the N8 penitentiary facility, heads, employs of the Penitentiary Department, among them - the director of the N8 prison Davit Khuchua, deputy director, Victor Kacheishvili, head of the regime Oleg Patsatsia, security department chief Giorgi Avsajanishvili, deputy head of the penitentiary department Gaga Mkurnalidze, employ of the same department Giorgi Kuntsurashvili and others persons, whose names were also mentioned in various reports of public defender earlier.
Public Defender reminds the law enforcement structures that similar facts happened in the N8 penitentiary facility regularly. In fact, since the day the prison was opened, prisoners are permanently subjected to mistreatment, torture and abuse, which was described in earlier reports of the ombudsman, who has applied to the Prosecutor`s Office to investigate these facts several times, however, none of the cases were investigated, neither the culprit have been punished so far.
In addition, Public Defender emphasizes that N8 prison is not an exception and similar facts take place in Kutaisi N2, N18 facility of convicts and defendants, Ksani N15 facility, which was mentioned in previous reports of the public defender earlier, but none of the facts were responded either.
Public Defender hopes that this time the law enforcers will do their best to reveal and punish all persons, who were involved in the crimes and those, who issued consent on committing these crimes,` the statement reads.
