The representatives of some media sources are assembled in front of the office of Central Election Commission for the time being. They are protesting over the regulations adopted by CEC, which envisage imposing certain restrictions on photo-video shooting during the election process.
They say that the regulations, which was approved despite objections of the NGOs and media, oppose the terms of the law on elections and limits the rights of the media to cover the election process. Media representatives call on the CEC to abolish the regulations.
Political parties responded to the CEC's decision as well.
The representative of "Christian-Democrat Movement" Zaza Gabunia said that CEC made the decision to allow media to shoot the process of election from 7 AM till the closing the pooling stations under pressure of CDM.
Zviad Dzidziguri, member of the collation "Georgian Dream" said that CEC took an unjust decision. Dzidziguri says that the Election Code regulates the media conduct and the additional restrictions are illegal.
Labor party also assessed the regulation. The representatives of the party say that they did not support the document, as well as not support all other governmental initiatives.
The session in Georgian Central Election Commission with 11 votes against 2 adopted regulations of decree on photo-video shooting during the election process.
The final version of regulations are as following: during the whole voting process at polling stations the photo and video shoot will be available only in specially designated places. The cameramen and photographers will be able to move freely and take shots from anywhere inside the polling station for the starting ten minutes; after those ten minutes expire, they will have to take a specially designated place within the precinct and continue filming from there. Filming voting booth and desk list is prohibited. Filming and taking photos should not be closer than three meters from an object which will be filmed. If a cameraman or a photographer decides to leave this specially designated place, he/she won't be able to return to that place in the same polling station and continue filming.
