The Orthodox Christians are marking the day of the Ascension of the Holy Cross on September 27. The day has been marked since the fourth century AD, after Patriarch Makarios I (313-323), discovered the cross on which Jesus Christ was nailed under the order of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine the Great (306 337). With the greatest of joy the noble born empress Helen and Patriarch Makarios raised up high the Life-Creating Cross and displayed it to all the people standing about.
The day is marked in all churches of Georgia.
Considering current political situation in the Georgia, His Holiness decided to coincide the day of consecration of Tbilisi on this Holyday. A peaceful march of church servicemen is planned to four directions in the capital from Metekhi Bridge. Any person can join the march.
