According to data released by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTA), trade between Italy and Georgia surged nearly 54% in the first half of 2012 compared to January-June 2011, totally amounting to over 137 million Euros.
In particular, Italian export to Georgia almost doubled, reaching 103.3 million Euros. The main sector in the Italian export to Georgia was "petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (excluding crude)", followed by "boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances", "articles of iron or steel", and "furniture".
The data released by National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT) show that in January-August 2012 Italy was Georgia's eight trading partner by turnover, with a share of 3.1% from last year's 2.3%.
