A political organization has announced that a demonstration at Freedom Square. Anticipated number of participants may number into hundreds of thousands.

October 2, 2012

No further demonstration or rallies have been announced by any political coalition but U.S. Embassy expects to see last minute announcements as election results are incoming.

Heavy traffic congestion should be expected in the areas surrounding the demonstrations. The Embassy anticipates similar demonstrations will continue to occur in and around Tbilisi and throughout the country today and for the foreseeable future. There is no information suggesting that any of these demonstrations are anti-American or anti-US Embassy.

Even demonstrations that are meant to be peaceful can become violent and unpredictable. You should avoid them if at all possible. Be alert and aware of your surroundings and pay attention to what the local news media has to say. Heavy traffic congestion should be expected in the areas surrounding the demonstrations.
