(HINA). The European Union will admit Croatia as a full member, according to the schedule, provided that Croatia fulfills the set tasks, Bundestag Speaker Norbert Lammert said in Berlin on Thursday evening, according to an advisor of former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
The European Union has undertaken to admit Croatia to its membership by mid-2013, and Croatia has undertaken to meet all the set requirements by that deadline. If this happens, there is no reason to consider a new date for Croatia's entry into the Union, Lammert told a panel discussion organised by the Heinrich Boell foundation in Berlin on Thursday evening.
The panel discussion focused on Croatia's upcoming accession to the EU and the impact of those developments on the region.
Mesic's advisor Tomislav Jakic told Hina that the Budestag president said that there would be no halts in the Union's enlargement after Croatia's admission.
Jakic quoted Lammert as saying that the process would go on with the emphasis to be given on the quality of the process rather than on its pace.
Mesic also attended the said panel discussion.
