(MIA). Encouraging business diaspora aimed at improving the competitiveness of the Macedonian economy is the goal of Macedonia Global Investment Summit 2012, which began Friday in Ohrid, organised by "Macedonia 2025."
Over 350 participants will debate on global economic prospects, investment climate in Macedonia, exchange of experiences from exisiting investors, cooperation with the diaspora aimed at creating economic opportunities.
This is a rare opportunity where business elite, Macedonian diaspora, foreign diplomats and Macedonian government officials can openly discuss future contours of Macedonian economy and ways to strengthen its competitiveness. Macedonian government with today's presence shows that dialogue with the business community is significantly important platform and is our strategic determination upon which we upgrade the economic strategy and we will continue to design policies which are friendly directed towards private sector, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said addressing the opening of the Global Investment Forum in Ohrid.
He added that the common goals set for providing conditions for economic growth and development, surpassing the influences from global challenges, policies for improvement and protecting the citizens' standard, intention for creating new jobs require mutual engagement and mutual efforts.
The road to success is a result of right selection of decisions, responsible approach and policy based solely on values and principles, Gruevski said. He underlined that the government in the past period undertook essential reforms of the business climate in Macedonia showing that ideas and promises were fulfilled.
Together with you we have succeed to maintain the production and employment in conditions of significantly unfavourable economic environment in Europe. Although global economic unfavourable environment and challenges had and have serious effect and negative influence, we continue to respect the values not allowing mass lay-offs, taxes to increase, salaries and pensions to decrease, Gruevski said.
We will continue with our efforts to attract foreign investors and every assistance, support and idea will be welcomed, Gruevski said.
Diaspora so far has no concrete investments in the country and as Robert Arsov, member of Board of Directors of "Macedonia 2025" announced a fund for realisation of the investments in Macedonia will be opened.
The summit, which will last until Oct. 21, will consist of working panels and networking opportunities to discuss and explore information which will stimulate joint cooperation among Macedonian and foreign companies in various sectors.
