On October 22-23, 2012 the European School of Oncology (ESO) of Milan, Italy, held two-day training on selected issues of breast cancer screening and diagnoses in Tbilisi. The training was organized by the National Screening Centre for practicing radiologists and radiographers involved in the Breast Cancer Screening Program carried out in Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia with the support of the United Nations Population Fund in Georgia (UNFPA).
The training enriched the knowledge and skills of almost 55 Georgian professionals, who benefitted from the experience, best practices and current tendencies in screening radiology shared by Italian experts of ESO Dr. M. Rosselli Del Turco and Dr. Ambrogetti. The training included theoretical sessions on different topics of special interest for screening radiologists. The trainers also showed clinical cases of specific interest and conducted an on-the-job training for 25 radiographers at the M. Kachinska branch of the National Screening Center in Tbilisi (NSC).
The training has been conducted by ESO in collaboration with the National Screening Centre, UNFPA/Georgia, Tbilisi State Medical University, the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and the Municipality of Tbilisi. It follows a similar training organized in 2011 under the patronage of the First Lady of Georgia.
The training is co-funded by the European School of Oncology (ESO) and United Nations Population Fund Georgia Country Office (UNFPA/Georgia) and supported by the Italian Embassy in Tbilisi.
