Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II hopes that many people will leave prisons soon - His Holiness visited two prisons today, met with prisoners individually and blessed them. Minister of Legal Assistance and Corrections of Georgia, Sozar Subari accompanies Ilia II in the Tbilisi N1 and N7 prisons.
`I hope that the government, president and others will do mercy and free the prisoners,` His Holiness announced and called on the nation to reinforce prayers.
Minister Subari said His Holiness talked with each prisoner individually. The prisons of the strict regime were selected by Patriarch Himself.
Sozar Subari also spoke about the process of early release and other forms of pardon. He said over 40,000 people were out of prisons but still under conditional sentences, adding several thousands of them would be freed of this kind of sentence. He said the procedures needed a specific period of time and therefore, the process would begin these days and continue in November.
