Russian Federation's Foreign Ministry made the first comments over the appointment of Zurab Abashidze for the post of Special Representative for Russian Issues.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gregoriy Karasin noted that Abashidze is a familiar face for many people in Moscow.
"The only thing that I can say is that we know very well Zurab Abashidze as Georgia's former ambassador to Russia and as experienced person and diplomat; we have met him for multiple times, including in recent years," RIA Novosti news agency reported quoting Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.
Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili presented Zurab Abashidze for the post of Special Representative for Russian Issues at the press conference held at the State Chancellery yesterday.
Bidzina Ivanishvili says that Abashidze is an experienced diplomat and has good links with Russia.
Ivanishvili hopes that steps made by Georgian side will be followed by the steps from Russia in response. Prime Minister stated that first of all the cultural and trade relations should be restored between the countries, after that the process of restoration of diplomatic relations would be launched.
The political experts are assessing the issue of appointing Zurab Abashidze for the post of Special Representative for Russian positively. They say that Abashidze is an acceptable candidate, because he has good experience, which will help to regulate relations between two countries.
