An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Mindanao at 02:18 HKT on Saturday, the Hong Kong Observatory said.
The epicenter was initially determined to be at 9.2 degrees North latitude and 126.0 degrees east longtitude.
According to seismologists, the quake struck at a depth of 70 kilometers near the city of Burgos with a population of about 20,000.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
