Former minister of internal affairs and defense of Georgia Bacho Akhalaia has been arrested with the charges of misuse of authority. The prosecutor`s office of Georgia took a decision to arrest him after a four-hour long interrogation last night. The investigation against the former minister is underway according to the article N333 part three of the criminal code of Georgia. The cases refer to the period when he was a minister of defense. According t the prosecutor`s office, Akhalaia abused military servicemen physically and verbally in his office during one of the meetings.
Akhalaia will be charged with the aforementioned article of the criminal code within 48 hours since his detention. Akhalaia has been already transferred to the pre-trial insulator.
Lawyer of the defendant Davit Dekanoidze says the allegations against the former minister are groundless and politically motivated.
