Chief prosecutor of Georgia has introduced one more episode to media today; according to which former minister of defense Bacho Akhalaia will face more charges. Archil Kbilashvili held a special briefing today. The incident refers to an illegal detention of a person, whose identity remains confidential due to the interests of the investigation. The crime for which Akhalaia, former chief of staffs of armed forces Giorgi Kalandadze and Davit Chakua, have been charged, was committed on September 13, 2011, when Akhalaia was the minister of defense.
The criminal case has been built up on the ground of the article N143 and the defendants may face from 7 to 10 year sentences.
Archil Kbilashvili said that Davit Chakua may also face charges under the same article soon.
Akhalaia, Kalandadze and the commander of the fourth brigade Shamatava have been already charged with misuse of authority. The first process at the law court will be held at the Tbilisi City Court today and they will be arguably sent to custody under pre-trial detention.
