Family of former defense minister, Bacho Akhalaia, who has been arrested with the charges of misusing authority, has released a statement, in which they say the charges against Akhalaia were groundless and the court should have released him from the hall.
`The campaign against our family and Bacho`s detention has nothing to do with the truth. Bacho Akhalaia was arrested with absolutely unintelligible charges, which is a clear confirmation that it is not justice. This is a political decision of the government of Georgia for satisfying the public interest. Otherwise, the court should have dismissed him from the session hall even without bail or warrantee, because the motion of the prosecutor`s presented at the hearing did not include anything groundfull,` says the statement.
Along with the release of the statement, father of the former minister, current MP of the minority, Roland Akhalaia calls on the chief prosecutor to begin investigation against current minister of defense Irakli Alasania, who was his rival in Zugdidi single-mandate MP elections.
Roland Akhalaia asserts that Alasania used to send his trusted person to him urging to lift his candidacy. He says the person who contacted him was a former convict and suspicious figure with his history. Akhalaia says Alasania threatened him with detention if he did not lift his candidacy.
