Former minister of interior and defense, Bachana Akhalaia has been transferred from Gldani N8 prison to Ortachala N7 facility. The PR department of the Ministry of Legal Assistance and Corrections has confirmed the report about the prisoner`s transfer.
`The transfer was carried out for providing safety of the defendant. He will be held there under reinforced security in a separate cell and there will be no other inmates on the same floor of the prison,` ministry representatives said.
The family of the detained ex-official has objected to this decision. They say Akhalaia was transferred to the prison, where the convicts for grave crime and so-called crime bosses are serving their sentences.
