Data Akhalaia, former head of Constitutional Security Department (CSD) of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) might be presented charges regarding the case of Sandro Girgvliani, a young bank employee who was tortured and subsequently murdered in the woods of Okrokana settlement near Tbilisi on 28 January 2006. The killing was tagged as one of the most notorious criminal cases in the modern history of Georgia.
Shalva Shavgulidze, MP who was lawyer of Girgviliani's family demands questioning of Akhalaia, his deputy Oleg Melnikov and former high-ranking official of MIA Vasil Sanodze. MP urges Prosecutor's Office for studying phone conversations between the three officials.
Tea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice also made a statement regarding investigation into Girgvliani's murder case. She claimed that the details would become known at the end of the month. Akhalaia pledged to cooperate with the investigation.
