The Tbilisi International Film Festival paid tribute to the world-famous Italian actor, dubber and director Giancarlo Giannini by awarding him the Prometheus prize for his extraordinary career.
The ceremony started with the screening of the documentary film "Giancarlo Giannini - Il gioco dell'attore", by Mr. Adriano Pintaldi, a famous author and director of the Rome Film Festival, who accompanied Maestro Giannini in Georgia. After the prize was given to Giannini, the movie by Lina Wertmuller "Seven Beauties" was screened, which had been nominated for a Golden Globe and for four Academy Awards, including that for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Mr. Giannini.
In the morning, Mr. Giannini and Mr. Pintaldi, along with the Ambassador of Italy, Ms. Federica Favi, and the director of TIFF, Ms. Nino Andjaparidze, were received by the Minister of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Mr. Guram Odisharia. During the meeting, projects concerning the development of Georgian cinematography were discussed and Giannini expressed his wish to visit Georgia again in the future.
Special events dedicated to the Italian actor will continue today at the Rustaveli Cinema, where the actor will hold a master class at 4.00 p.m., following the screening of Lina Wertmüller's film "Love and Anarchy".
On December 9, Luchino Visconti's film "The innocent", also starring Mr. Giannini, will be screened.
