Zurab Abashidze, Special Representative of Georgia's Prime Minister for Russian Issues will hold a meeting with Gregoriy Karasin, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister sometime this week.
The meeting will take place on a neutral territory presumably in Switzerland. Maia Panjikidze, Georgia's Foreign Minister said that the meeting will be focused around means how to resume the dialog and frequency of negotiations.
Batu Kutelia, deputy to Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council said that restoration of Georgian-Russian relations should not occurr at the expense of Georgia's state sovereignty and independence.
On December 10, Abashidze responded to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's statement and talked about the planned meeting with the representatives of Russia government.
"Moscow will meet with the Georgian prime minister`s special representative in the near future" -Sergei Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister said at a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
"We will respond to a proposal of Zurab Abashidze, which he has sent to us in a capacity of special representative of the Georgian Prime Minister. We will have contacts with him in the nearest future. We will discuss several issues at the meeting with Zurab Abashidze" - Lavrov said.
He said that that Moscow wanted to clarify context in which Tbilisi was willing to normalize its relations with Moscow. "We are ready for reasonable steps, those that derive from the interest of citizens, however Georgia reiterates its course of NATO membership", - Lavrov said.
Russia's Foreign Minister says that Russia is ready to restore the regular flights between the two countries.
