Special representative of Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Abashidze will meet with the deputy minister of foreign affairs of Russia Grigory Karasin to discuss the mechanisms for beginning dialogue between the two countries. The concrete issues, on which the two diplomats will have discussion, have not been reported so far. Karasin told Russian media a few hours before the meeting that Georgian and Russian sides will negotiate without mediators.
Grigory Karasin thinks that the two neighbor countries should have direct contact; however, the Russian Federation refuses to discuss the issue of Georgia`s occupied regions in absence of the representatives from the puppet regimes of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region. Russian diplomat believes that the Geneva internationally mediated peace talks are the best place and format for discussing this problem.
