At December 20 midday in one of the biggest Russian news agencies, RIA Novosti, President of EU-Georgian, Abkhazian, Ossetian International Movement, an international peace building platform, initiated in Tbilisi and Brussels in 2012 , presented to press, political and expert communities of Russia. "This is a new chapter in future Georgia-Russia dialogue concerning the future of the region", highlighted Prof. Kirtadze.
"EU - Georgian, Abkhazian and Ossetian International Movement" (EUGAO) main goal is to facilitate innovative and practical methods of reinstating dialogue between Georgians, Abkhazians, Ossetians and Russians after the war of August 2008. The "peaceful platform" will work in four core dimensions: economic, social, cultural and academic. At the moment experts of the EUGAO have been working on the projects' agenda, which are meant to bring practical and visible results of improvement in life of people, living in conflict regions and encouraging dialogue among them. Mutually beneficial economic cooperation, such as perspective of joint business ventures and opening of the markets to local businesses, is in the heart of the economic agenda of the EUGAO.
Prof. Kirtadze said, that EUGAO is standing at the position of important role of Russian Federation in a status of "side of the conflict", whose representatives have to sit at the negotiation table together with Georgians, Abkhazians and Ossetians to discuss practical agenda of improvement of lives for people living in the conflict regions, without being stuck at the "unresolvable" at the moment issue - political status of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The platform's headquarters location - Brussels, Belgium - was chosen, as Prof. Kirtadze marked, because of neutrality of the European Union towards the conflict, and also giving the credit to experience of expert community of the EU in peace keeping and mediation. "The EU had an honor to receive Nobel Peace Prize this year, indeed becoming after the centuries of wars and conflicts one of the most peaceful regions in the world" - added President of the EUGAO.
President of EUGAO prof. Kirtadze invited leaders of Abkhazian and Ossetian civil society, experts and business leaders to use EUGAO international platform for being heard by the international community in the current situation of diplomatic blockade.
Facilitation of the dialogue between Abkhazians and Ossetians with the EU through the window of "civil diplomacy" is a unique opportunity for the people in the region to attract attention to the authentic views on the problems and vision of evolvement of the situation in the region, noted Kirtadze.
During the visit in Moscow, Nestan Kirtadze held the discussion with representatives of the expert societies, about the opportunities to start new mediation dialogue formats between Georgians, Russians, Abkhaz and Ossetians .
Earlier EUGAO had been presented by Prof. Kirtadze for European expert community in the capital of the European Union, Brussels. In early 2013 presentations in Brussels (at the European Parliament), in Paris, Berlin and in New-York (UN) and Washington planned to be held.
