The conclusion of Venice Commission, an advisory body of the Council of Europe, about the draft-bill prepared by the Georgian government on General Courts will become known sometime later today.
The Georgian parliamentary delegation is in Venice. Konstantine Kublashvili, Chairman of Supreme Court of Georgia and Aleksandre Baramidze, Deputy Justice Minister left for Italy as well. The Commission will discuss the draft-bill during today's sitting.
MPs of the minority claim that some regulations presented in the draft-bill contradict to the European standards. They claim that the document serves political interests of the ruling Georgian Dream Party. Minority MPs object to the proposed rule for staffing of Justice Council.
Zkaria Kutsnashvili, Majority MP said that the majority respected Venice Commission and did not approve the draft-bill in a speedily manner.
Experts also evaluated the draft-bill on General Courts. Merab Turava said the draft-bill was ideal and that it was a step forward to make the court democratic. Expert Otar Kakhidze said that the draft-bill contained threats of interference in the court activities.
