On April 10-18, 2013, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the U.S. Department of State and will send a delegation of senior U.S. officials to South Caucasus region. The delegation includes USAID Assistant Administrator Paige Alexander; Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Thomas Melia; and Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin.
In Georgia, the U.S. delegation will participate in the U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission Working Group on Democracy and Governance to underscore continuing U.S. support for Georgia's democratic development following its October 2012 parliamentary elections with a view towards Georgia's achievement of its Euro-Atlantic integration goals. The delegation will also meet with representatives from civil society and media.
USAID Assistant Administrator Paige Alexander and Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas Melia will travel to Azerbaijan to meet government officials and engage civil society and media representatives. Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas Melia will travel to Armenia in the next several months to meet with government officials and civil society representatives following the February presidential elections.
