Former director general of the Georgian Railways LLC, Irakli Ezugbaia plans to arrive in Georgia soon to cooperate with the investigation. His attorney says they will appeal the court ruling about sending his defendant to custody in absentia, as Ezugbaia is currently in England for education.
Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia discovered financial machinations in the Georgian Railways, according to which 65 million GEL was misappropriated from the state budget. Seven other persons were also arrested in suspicion of being involved in this scheme of embezzlement; however, they were dismissed by the judge from the court hall, while Ezugbaia was sent to custody for pre-trial term in absentia.
