Secretary General of the United National Movement of Georgia Vano
Merabishvili and the president`s representative to the Kakheti Region,
Zurab Chiaberashvili have been summoned to the office of the Imereti
regional prosecutor`s office for interrogation. Reportedly, the two
former officials will be questioned about the implementation of the
employment program, for which they were already interrogated a few
months ago.
The opposition figures say the government tries to
overshadow the problems that followed the May17 LGBT rally dispersal and
their failure to fulfill pre-election promises. They assess their
summoning as a new wave of persecution of the opposition in the country.
Majority
leader Davit Saganelidze fails to specify the issue on which the former
officials will have to answer questions, however, he thinks the issues
on which the society should have answers are quite a lot.
`I don`t
think that this is tied with the employment program only. I think that
there are many issues to which Merabishvili and Chiaberashvili were tied
for years. I can`t say what is the matter of interrogation for today,
but I believe that the society will have answers on many questions in a
few days,` Saganelidze said.
