Emzar Goguadze, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) responded to a statement of the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA) made on September 9.
The Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA) believes that dismissal of Giorgi Baratashvili, General Director of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) by Board of Trustees took place by violation of law.
The GYLA claims that the membership of the board, which took the decision, was not authorized to do so. The Media Legislative Center of GYLA claims that 2 members of the Board - Nino Danelia and Natalia Dvali -- were absent during the sitting.
They were represented through a notary entrust by former member of the board Levan Gakheladze and acting member Mamuka Pachuashvili. Young lawyers clarify that members of the board are obliged to perform their duties personally.
The GYLA also demands investigation of pressure part on part of Irakli Tsibadze, Advisor to General Director of GPB in Security Issues by the Prosecutor's Office.
Goguadze denied allegations during a press conference held this afternoon. He presented two arguments. He said that during the sitting where two members of the board Danelia and Dvali were absent, the members had online communication with the sitting through Skype. They fixed their standpoint via Skype.
Besides, there is written communication through E-mail, where the two members gave their authorities to Gakheladze and Pachuashvili.
Goguadze also pointed out that he will discuss this issue in the parliament if he receives an official invitation from a relevant committee. "I have a great desire to talk about our decision in the parliament but I need a special official invitation for this," Goguadze stated.
