President Saakashvili has nominated three candidates for the position of the chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Georgia: Tamar Zhvania, Manuchar Gamkrelidze and Konstantine Amirajibi.
No later than 15 days after the termination of authority of the CEC Chair, the President of Georgia, as a result of consultations with civil sector, shall submit to the CEC 3 candidates for the position of the CEC Chair. The decision on electing the CEC Chair shall be made by the CEC members appointed by the political parties within 5 days (except for the members appointed by the party with the best results in the previous Parliamentary Elections).
According to the Georgian legislation, in case the CEC fails to agree on one of the three candidates, the procedure will move to the parliament and the lawmakers will elect the chairperson of the CEC within seven days.
