Georgian Special Operation Forces training is underway at Vaziani military drill. Defence Minister of Georgia Irakli Alasania and Chief of General Staff of GAF, Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze attended the exercise today.
The name of the exercise includes trainings in air assault and cleansing the bunkers from rivals by firing. After landing from helicopters, the military servicemen, selected from various units of GAF, carried out infantry combat trainings. Totally, 44 soldiers participated in the exercise. The exercise is held within the first stage of Special Operation Forces training and aims to master in tactics of small subunits.
"We develop Georgian Special Operation Forces on purpose. The trainings have been underway for several months. 90 percent of military servicemen participating in the exercise have already contributed in ISAF mission in Afghanistan. So they have combat experience. These guys have passed very difficult examinations. Among 800 volunteers, only 44 of them were able to undergo the training. The exercise has a very high requirements, so the elite unit of our Special Operation Forces will be manned by professional and well-trained soldiers" - stated Irakli Alasania.
Approximately 800 military servicemen from the various units expressed will to undergo the course. One of the main criteria for the training was more then 2 years service in Georgian Armed Forces. The volunteers passed tests in general skills and physical preparation. Commanders' recommendations were also taken into consideration. Only 240 soldiers answered the requirements. But 72 military were able to be in quarantine. Thus, at this stage 44 military servicemen are undergoing the trainings. 90 percent of them have received combat experience in ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
The preparation included special training in stressful and heavy weather conditions. After the successful completion of the course, military servicemen will move to the next stage of SOF training. Afterwards, they will be appointed on the relevant positions of Special Operation Forces. The same course is also planned to be held in the future as well.
