On Thursday, January 23rd The
Parliament of Georgia unanimously adopted statement on Ukraine events with 118
votes with participation of all groups and factions. The statement
provides extreme concern on events in Ukraine and usage of force against
peaceful population, entailing casualties. “We express grief and give our
condolences to Ukrainian people. The Parliament of Georgia condemns violence in
any form and escalation of situation which may lead the country to wide-scale
civil confrontation”.
The Parliament calls upon both sides
to use the dialogue for solution. “The Parliament of Georgia declares
solidarity to aspiration of Ukrainian people for freedom, rule of law and
membership of human rights based European family and believes that Russia,
forcing to reject Association Agreement, will fail to make Georgia and Ukraine
change the path.” The Parliament shares the spirit of the statements by EU and
USA and supposes that use of force and tension cannot lead the country out of
political crisis.
The Speaker expressed his hope that
this document will facilitate peaceful resolution of issues. “Once more I
underline our joint unanimity to express solidarity to our friends and hope
that this statement will be a minor but our merit in peaceful resolution”.
