Gigi Ugulava whose mayoral authority has been suspended
makes his comment on video footage spread in social network yesterday, reports
GHN.
According to Ugulava the footage was spread by
the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor’s Office. He also added
that Merabishvili’s nine month pre-detention period was to expire by the end of
February and in case he would not be found guilty, Prosecutor’s Office would
try to make his custody period extended on bases of new breach accusations.
Ugulava, reminded the public of the Mukhrovani
riot and its organizers. ‘The organizers were Krialashvili and Otanadze. There
was a public consensus about the fact’, he said.
‘As
far as I remember I arrived at the base along with the President. Maybe we
arrived to attend some event. The proof of it is my and the President’s
irrelevant clothes. In addition, Vano Merabishvili was leading the special
operation. Merabishvili was there along with soldiers. I heard many comment
that some wanted to pin the blame on Saakashvili. And finally, the main and the
most important thing – anyone who knows Merabishvili and his poor grammar, will
guess easily what he meant. Initially Merabishvili talks about detention and
interrogation of two persons and then he theoretically talks about corpses. He,
as the leader of the operation, is issuing an order to use legitimate force in
case of resistance’, Ugulava said.
According
to him, law-enforcement officers have the right to use force during terrorist
acts and riots.
He
noted the video footage shows that two persons were hiding and that they were
wanted. ‘I want to remind the public that those two persons were trying to
enter the South Ossetian territory. As far as I remember there was a clash with
those people, during which SWAT members were injured. One of the persons was
killed and the other was wounded. If the order had been liquidation, both of
them would have been killed. However, the government treated wounded Otanadze’,
Ugulava said.
