On the 30th of
January 2014, the Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Davit Zalkaliani
met the Romanian Foreign Ministry's Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs, Mr
Bogdan Aurescu, who is on a two-day visit to Georgia, reports GHN according to MFA’s Press and Information Department
The meeting began by
discussing the current issues on bilateral co-operation, including the
economic, energy and transport projects. Special emphasis was laid on the
restoration of a ferryboat line (Batumi-Constanta/Poti-Constanta); the use of
the Black Sea - Caspian Sea freight corridor; and the implementation of the
Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI) project.
The Romanian Secretary of
State once again reaffirmed his Government's support for Georgia's integration
into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Mr Aurescu focused on
Georgia-European Union co-operation priorities for 2014, including the signing
of the Association Agreement prior to August; on progress achieved in the visa
liberalization process; and on high level visits due to be paid to Georgia.
The Georgian First Deputy
Foreign Minister focused on the Eastern Partnership challenges, including the
challenges expected by Georgia in 2014, and the current situation in Georgia's
occupied territories. In this context, Mr Aurescu once again reaffirmed
Romania's firm support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The two underlined the
need to maintain the mandate of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in
Georgia.
