„This year marks the decisive
stage we have to cover on our path toward Europe,"- Prime Minister of
Georgia Irakli Garibashvili announced at the presentation of the Human Rights
Action Plan and National Strategy of the Government of Georgia yesterday. According to him,
on the way toward Europe it's very important Georgia to look up to the highest
standard strategy and plan in human rights sphere, reported Prime Minister's Press Service.
„Very soon, after our high standard Action
Plan is enacted, everyone will see that our government, our political team makes
every effort and does everything in its power to ensure respect for human
rights in Georgia in accordance with European standards once and for all and
actually build democratic institutions which no political force will be able to
undermine,"- stated Irakli Garibashvili.
Prime Minister on behalf of the Georgian Government thanked Mister Thomas
Hammarberg and all the involved parties who contributed to Georgia's European
integration, promotion of respect for human rights and strengthening of
democratic processes.
“Georgia is in leading position
in terms of elaborating Human Rights Action Plan," - this was stated by EU
Special Adviser on Constitutional and Legal Issues and Human Rights Thomas
Hammarberg.
According him, Human Rights Action Plan like this does not exist in even many
of EU member countries and they probably can learn a lot from Georgia.
