Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Georgia has made an official statement on the developments in Kiev, on February
18. GHN offers the original version of the statement:
‘We strongly condemn the
use of force and are deeply concerned with the tragic events that have
developed in Kyiv, on February 18, claiming dozens of human lives. We express
our condolences to the families of the victims, a Georgian citizen among them,
and of those many more injured. It is with the great distress that we follow
these processes, which are totally incompatible with democracy, fundamental
human rights and European values.
We fully share the calls
of the international community towards the Ukrainian Government on taking all
the proper measures for parties to return to the dialogue and not to escalate
the ongoing processes into large-scale civil confrontation.
Respecting people's
choice and ensuring the right of self-expression is the responsibility of every
authority and government. We once again express our solidarity to the Ukrainian
people in this extremely grave moment. At the same time, we are strongly
confident that resuming the peaceful dialogue is the only alternative to
overcome the existing political crisis.’
