The Minister of Defense of
Georgia Irakli Alasania who is on an official visit to Brussels held meetings
with the European defence agency.
During the meeting with
chairman of the European Union Military Committee, General de Rousiers,
involvement of Georgian armed forces in the peaceful mission in Central Africa
and the specific details of the operation were discussed. General de Rousiers highlighted
the professionalism of Georgia’s armed forces and the high level of training,
reports InterPressNews
“Georgia’s military
cooperation with EU and NATO is advancing dynamically. You know that Georgia is
joining the Central Africa operation. We had a meeting with the EU military
committee chairman. The details of the operation were discussed. They recognize
Georgia as one of the strongest military powers that will take part in the
mission”, the Minister of Defense stated after the meeting.
The Georgian delegation also
visited U.S. European command. Alasania met with the Commander of U.S. European
command Philip M. Breedlove. Bilateral cooperation in the military field was
discussed and ongoing ISAF mission in Afghanistan and future plans.
The Minister of Defense of
Georgia said that increase of the military capabilities of Georgia and
Georgia’s participation in future operations will be discussed these coming
days”, the Minister of Defense stated.
Irakli Alasania will attend
the meeting of Defense Ministers of NATO member and non-member states. Within
the scope of the Ministerial, the Minister of Defense will hold bilateral
meeting with Norwegian, Azerbaijani and Afghan colleagues.
