In the frames of NATO Defence
Ministerial taking place in Brussels Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania held
bilateral meeting with his Afghan counterpart Bismillah Khan Mohhamadi.
As MOD of Georgia reported, the sides
talked on the progress of international mission in Afghanistan and discussed
post-ISAF operation. An attention was attributed to handing over the security
responsibility to Afghan National Security Forces.
Ministers expressed willingness to
further develop the cooperation between Georgian and Afghan defence ministries.
In the upcoming future, the ministries of defence of both countries will
conclude Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the military field.
Irakli
Alasania talked on the readiness of Georgian government to support ANSF in the
process of implementation of reforms.
“We
have reaffirmed once again that the Georgian government stands ready to support
Afghans because we, like Afghanistan, have experienced Soviet Occupation, Civil
War, though survived and became stronger. The reforms which were implemented in
Georgia are interesting for them. Therefore, we are going to share our
experience with them. Given that, we will conclude a bilateral agreement”,
outlined Minister of Defence.
Following the Ministerial, Irakli
Alasania summed up the results of the Summit in Brussels-“Georgia`s image in
NATO changes to the best day by day. They appreciate a huge contribution
Georgian troops are providing to the global security. Everybody thinks that
Georgia goes ahead towards NATO integration.”
