The Minister of Defense of Georgia Irakli Alasania is in Central Africa with first official visit. In the delegation also are the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze and deputy of the Minister Varlam Avaliani, reports GHN.
The chiefs of the Ministry of Defense met Batumi infantry battalion personnel that participate in European Union-led peacekeeping mission. Irakli Alasania and Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze applied with the speech to Georgian soldiers and focused on the importance of the mission. They received detailed information about existing situation and also about tasks entrusted. At the end of the meeting the Minister of Defense wished successful implementation of the mission and retuning back to Georgia in peace.
In the frame of visit in the Republic of Central Africa also are planned meetings with chef of peacekeeping operation of United Nations and with special representative of Secretary General of United Nations.
Batumi infantry battalion personnel departed in Central Africa in June. Georgian soldiers perform peacekeeping mission in the capital Bangi. The mission provides with security and stabilization in the area. Infantry battalion personnel also perform patrolling on the territory near Airport.
