Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has asked the EU member countries, the United States and the Group of Seven states to increase pressure on Russia due to its military aggression against Ukraine, freeze all Russian assets and stop all banking transactions by Russia, reports GHN based on Ukrinform
He said this after a ceremony to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian World Congress in Kyiv on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"Unfortunately, the introduction of sanctions has produced no results on de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine. In such circumstances, one of the likely elements of deterring Russian aggression should be the consideration of the issue of freezing all Russian assets and stopping all banking transactions by Russia in the EU member states, the United States and the Group of Seven countries," Yatseniuk said.
He said that Russian assets and finances should be frozen until the withdrawal by Russia of its armed forces, military equipment and agents from Ukraine.
Yatseniuk said that the situation in the country was "really, really difficult."
He reiterated that Russian President Vladimir Putin had deliberately launched a war in Ukraine and Europe: "The entire world knows that, and it is impossible to hide that."
